It's more a two and a half. I was actually really disappointed in the plot and the characters. The only reason why I would recommend it is for the quirky dialogue. I made the mistake of reading Always Will (which I loved) Not My Type (which was ok) and The List back to back. My disappointment is in the similarities of the characters, their reactions and the outcomes. It seemed as if Not My Type and The List was more or less the same thing, just a different setting. And how many "eye rolls" can you have between your characters in ALL your plots? Also: My last complaint: I was very surprised when I saw the so-called ages of the characters: that of 24 and 26. They act extremely adolescent and immature. I constantly was under the impression they were in their late teens, because their behaviour matched that type of behaviour for that age group. If a book is not authentic in every way; that includes developmental phases, it totally loses its appeal to me.Tags : ,Melanie Jacobson,The List: Finding Love Was the Last Thing on Her List,Covenant Communications, Inc.,1608610519
The List Finding Love Was the Last Thing on Her List Melanie Jacobson 9781608610518 Books Reviews
Why did I wait so long to read this book?? It was fantastic! So much better than I thought it would be. I seriously loved this story. I think you will, too.
I often struggle with "Mormon" fiction because it's just too cheesy. This book wasn't. It was religious without being preachy at all, but more and most importantly it was real. Cool girl, great guy, sand, surf and summer. The dialogue alone sold me. These characters are funny and smart. Matt is just mm, mm, good. Their story is fun, adventurous, elucidating, heart breaking and heart warming all at once. I often thought, "That could have been me!" Towards the end I was dying to know how it was all going to work out; so much so that I was late to work because I had to read just a little bit more....Don't miss out! Go read The List, like, right now.
This is the second book of Melanie's that I have read and I know I will probably read through her entire library of work before I stop. She is incredibly funny and I find myself laughing out loud way too often. It reminds of standing in a retail outlet reading a funny creating card and then realizing you are laughing out loud making a fool of yourself. But the story is so much more than funny. It's well written, insightful on so many levels and full of real moments that make you stop and think. I am impressed with her skilled story telling as well as her descriptive phrases and masterful use of language. All of this skill is wrapped up in a very enjoyable journey. Buy the book. It was worth the higher price for I had to pay for the version. Loved every second of it.

Pros More fabulous swoon. LOVED the hero, Matt ... that's something I adore about Melanie's heroes they don't run away from love. This is the perfect warm-you-up-summer-romance for the middle of winter. I wanted to go sit on the beach with my husband and kiss by the time I finished this. And like usual, Melanie's books have more than just the romance going on -- considering the hero is sort of off-stage for a big chunk of the middle, one would hope so! Ashley, the main character, definitely has some issues (some that I didn't understand, but everyone is different!)
One of my romance pet peeves -- I have way too many, I know -- is a too old voice for late-twenties and thirty-something protagonists. I hate to admit this, but I'm thirty and I don't talk like a middle-aged woman. I say awesome and whatever and bummer on a frequent basis. So, ramble aside, Melanie GETS THAT and her protagonists speak age appropriately. The voice is FANTASTIC.
He Said/She Said "We need to do this again sometime," he said.
"Kiss? Sure."
"Wow, Ashley, I meant eat pizza and take a walk, but I'll make out with you if you really want me to."
Matt "Last one in has a really big crush on the other!" I scooped my board up and headed out at a dead run, splashing in until the waves were waist high before I turned around to grin at him.
He waded up slowly, his dimples flashing again. "Guilty," he said. "So very, very guilty."
Disclaimer Nothing.

Fun read that I know I will read again. Setting in a singles congregation, but fun how the MC goes about catching her man. Loved the ocean setting and learning a little bit about surfing along with the sweet untying of the knot that made this story so worthwhile! Still smiling and savoring it!
Fun story about learning to trust and learning to let go of things that get in the way of relationships.
A summer fling turns complicated as a long-term bucket list of tasks gets in the way of 'real' life and love. The developing romance and the gradual unfolding of the relationship as the MC gradually get to know each other made for a engaging and fun read. The beach setting with surfing as a background, made for an interesting setting. Well done and worth a second read.
Loved the beach setting, highs and lows in the story were just like the surf...How was this romantic wave going to close out? A crash and burn, or a subtle roll over into something sweet?
The internet dating scenario mentioned was fun,and cute. Matt (H) was sweet. Ashley subtle machinations trying to get him to be her summer fling and denying her growing feelings as they had fun dating and Ashley learning to surf. Her confusion and realization as she is in the middle of her school life, was so sweetly realized and told. Her "List", and Matt's help with it, his motivations, his real persona, his real feelings, were hard for her to accept. It was a wonderful end, and just like surfing, she had to learn to read the waves, and get her feet under her to ride the wave to a final finish.
It's more a two and a half. I was actually really disappointed in the plot and the characters. The only reason why I would recommend it is for the quirky dialogue.
